Scutum is a decorative panel featuring a handcrafted SPLOT® weave, designed to protect and define architectural spaces. Beyond pure art, it acts as a sophisticated shield to conceal technical volumes or service areas in high-end residences, luxury hospitality, and executive offices.
Its name refers to the ancient Roman shield, a symbol of defense and identity. Much like its namesake, the panel is a recognizable, decorated surface that safeguards the balance of an interior while asserting a strong character.
This project originated from a bespoke request for a solution that transcends simple wall cladding, evolving into a versatile architectural tool.
The client sought an element capable of acting as both a functional partition and a standalone design feature. It merges technical utility with expressive force, representing the slow, manual care of Italian high craftsmanship.
The panel is crafted from a unique SPLOT® metallic weave, where reclaimed aluminum strips are arranged on two distinct levels. This creates a three-dimensional, textured pattern that generates a dynamic field of shadows and reflections.
This rhythmic composition draws from the language of kinetic art, where repetition and depth transform a static wall into a moving experience.
Available in standard dimensions or fully bespoke sizes, Scutum offers finishes such as the warm Brown Medici or the intense Black Abatellis. Every detail can be tailored to specific projects, ensuring a lightweight yet resistant solution that combines Italian artisanal soul with total creative freedom.
